#78: Bobbi
We're joined by model, frequent-beach-goer & iced-coffee connoisseur, Bobbi, who tells us more about Aperol Sours, 70s Haircuts, Tracy Chapman's music, and so much more!
“Hi I’m Bobbi <3 I’m a model, a frequent-beach-goer, an iced-coffee connoisseur and a lover of all things thrifted. I sew, I sing, I take pictures of cute things. I’ve been described by more than one person as an onion. Whether that is a comparison to my personality having layers or my ability to make people cry; I’m unsure. I have a degree in fashion design, but I wouldn’t say I LOVE fashion – it can be exhausting sometimes. I would describe my style as ‘12-year-old skater-boy core’ with a touch of femininity. I just returned back to Cape Town after a solo-travel around Europe and I am so happy to be back and not pay R100 for a sh*t cup of coffee.”
We welcome Bobbi to The FRM Newsletter to share what they’ve been into recently!
💇♀️🚬 70s Haircuts
*goes to Berlin for a couple weeks and comes back with shaggy cut and chain smoking tendencies* so cliché I know, but it's Berlin – I had to. If you’ve ever had an itch to experiment with your hair, just do it – hair grows back.
🏖 Hear me out – Plakkies???
I think it has the potential to be the next shoe of the summer. I got a really cute red, square-toed pair of Havaianas and it genuinely goes with everything. Its low-budget and effortlessly cool #bringbackplakkies.
📴🏞 Instagram Detoxing
This is something I’ve wanted to do for the longest time, but wasn't able to, as having a presence on social media is part of my job and the thought of deleting the app felt extreme. However, when I was abroad I took a 4 day break and I know that actually sounds pathetic but as someone who has a screen time that is too embarrassingly high to mention, the break was impressive. I realized how many hours there are in a day and that I could’ve been a millionaire by the age of 22 if I’d just dedicated all the time I spent on social media on something that is actually productive – no hate to IG, I still love you but lowkey I do hate you.
🍹🌞 Aperol Sours
It's like if an Aperol Spritz had a glow up. Since I had my first one it's been the only drink I’ve been thinking of - a true love story. They seem scarce, a true gem on a drink menu, so if you ever spot one I urge you to try it.
👁🎬 I Origins (2014)
I usually enjoy films with really stupid humour but this is a science fiction romantic drama film and it's probably one of my favorite movies. All I’ll say is you might develop a fear of elevators after watching this.
🎸🎙 Tracy Chapman
I would not have gotten through the lows of solo-traveling without her. Listening to her music is like a warm, wise hug leaving you with a little comfort in your heart and a ‘maybe everything will be okay’ outlook on life.
💎🛒 Flea Market Jewellery
I’ve gathered all of my coolest jewelry secondhand from flea markets (or the old tannies at the christmas markets selling heaps of silver). I’ve always loved big statement/quirky jewelry with an organic design - the more handmade and rough round the edges; the better.
🧊☕ Honey in your iced coffee
An iced-coffee with honey is my go-to, but make sure to ask your barista to add your honey into the espresso shot while it’s still warm so that it can melt. Otherwise if you add it after the ice, your honey will sink to the bottom and your iced coffee will be bitter (so will the rest of your day).
Usually I always read self help/psychology books either about love, friendship or self-love, but I took a break from all that sh*t and now my current read is Yellowface by R. F. Kuang. If you’re looking for a book you can’t put down, this is it.
🍪🥛 Cookies
Everyone deserves a little sweet treat and my sweet treat of choice is a big and warm, freshly baked, gourmet cookie. I love the classic choc-chip with a buttery gooey center with some sea-salt sprinkled on top. In Cape Town my go-to is Stellski’s cookies but if it’s an after hour craving I recommend taking a drive to the Wengen and getting The Famous American Style Merba Cranberry and white chocolate packet of cookies. Trust me.
