#74: Ameerah Moola (A$CID)
We're joined by inter-disciplinary babe, Ameerah Moola (A$CID), who tells us more about artworks by Toshio Saeki, The Criterion Collection, Kimchi in Sea Point, and creates an FRM playlist for us!
“Ameerah is an inter-disciplinary babe, seeking expression in multiple forms of media. my work aims to decolonise the body and the mind, and i am on an eternal journey home. i make experimental sound for listening, not always dancing, under my producer tag A$CID, which hopes to inspire something of a trip in the audience. hailing from Johannesburg, currently home in Cape Town, I am a model, poet, lover. amongst other things i am a Card Player, and act as a channel & speaker for higher realms and unseen entities.”
We welcome Ameerah to The FRM Newsletter to share what they’ve been into recently!
👖💄 Fashion
Im super into the erotic and religious at this time, flowing
Between secular and sexy, sacred and severe. I dont sew
But I love clothes: pieces, I collect. Right now I go
For items that allow me to be naked yet fully clothed, so:
Lots of satin slips, long and short, no bras to free the nips,
See through fabrics I heart lace and chiffon, jeans, zips.
I thrift, choosing things that are interesting in patterns. Tips:
Cool buttons, dainty details, colours, feel, nothing easy to rip.
Shoes inside the house are Japanese clogs, fluffy slippers,
Then I have a rotation of loafers, Nike SBs to thrash, kittens
(Heels that is)- I would love one day to own a few pairs of Manolo Blahniks.
Im into stockings and knee high socks in an obsessed manner right now.
I got some pineapple socks that I am excited about wearing when the moment allows.
🎧🌊 Music/sound
For music I’d rather say sound, I enjoy the sound of a harp, hard drums,
A stunning breakbeat, hard rap track, gangster boogies, house, music to numb.
Artists specifically, Earl Sweatshirt, Beethoven, Florelda Sacchi, some
Quelle Chris, Puma Blue, Claude Debussy, Muslimgauze, Flying Lotus, Nils Frahm.
I enjoy classical music, ambient, experimental, and I try to make the same.
The list could go on for years, but here is a link for Spotify playlist by ur name:
🎌🎭 Art
I adore Toshio Saeki, I have a piece of his tattooed on my back,
His work deals in the taboo, painting strange, picture frames on crack.
Also Junji Ito, some horror manga. I enjoy Joan Miro, there is no lack
Of good paintings from him. bad art is my passion, sort of trashy, what some would consider wack.
Im also inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s way of being, way of seeing. I love artists who have a knack
For the deranged and absurd. I am also inspired by the Cape Town IT art couple Dominique Cheminais and Xander Blom. Seriously amazing. Goals or whatever the kids say.
🎬😈 Film
In the film realm, the criterion collection is the man I tell you not to worry about.
Definitely and absolutely the greatest films of all time can be found on that route.
The Criterion Collection is who A24 thinks they are. But also have to give A24 a shout.
Love them. I loved ‘Poor Things’. I watch movies by director, Yorgos Lanthimos is the GOAT.
Also, Peter Greenaway: The cook, the thief, his wife and her lover. Jean Paul Gaultier
Did the costume for the film. stunning. brilliant. 10/10. Eiichi Yamamoto- for Belladonna of Sadness, Cleopatra, 1001 Nights. 3 of the most wonderful films you might ever watch. Madness.
I love horror that deals in insanity, depravity, psychopathy: Possession (Andrej Zulawski), Funny Games (Michael Haneke), Irreversible (Gaspar Noe’). Tragic! Heart Wrenching! Hurts tummy!
I am not a sicko though (maybe). I love movies!!!!! But reality is stranger than fiction.
@cinemamonamour is a good page on instagram to follow for this addiction.
Or ‘Incredibly Strange Films’ on Facebook for folks with a burning affliction.
🧾💟 Literature
To read and feed the brain: poems, poems, poems, poems, poems. As you can see.
Rumi.
Murakami.
William Carlos Williams.
Arundhati Roy.
Khalil Gibran.
Lesego Rampolokeng.
I am currently reading Narziss and Goldman, by Herman Hesse. I usually prefer non-white writers,
Because I cant relate otherwise. But this man has a spicy way with words that I am really enjoying.
In trying not to be annoying I will keep the rest short.
Or not!
Unless!
🌏🍣 Food
For the appetite, Kimchi in Sea Point is the most delicious for Korean sticky wings and jasmine rice.
I like simple dishes. I also like textured foods, so asian food is always super nice.
On a regular day I make some eggs. a good bakery baked bread is important to me, had to say it thrice. I like to dice up whatever veg I have and slice up some chilli’s in there and boom: house wife.
indomie is the staple for laziness, made gourmet with grated cheese, soy sauce, nuts for crunch. I also love Bin Rashied, for pizza. Their prices/portion ratio are banging and the garlic also.
🚕😊 Travel & Lifestyle
Local travel and uber rides, I am mostly alone, so I try always to sit at the back of the driver in case I need to strangle him with the seatbelt. walking around the city alone I feel requires a sort of gangster demeanour, so I aim to take on the swagger of a Nigerian drug dealer and then nobody really fucks with me. I also find that being in any city, good manners and courtesy can get you into doors that status and money cant. So be kind! And patient!
Brilliant !!
