#61: Amber Z
This week we are joined by stylist & creative director, Amber Zara, who tells us more about art by Emma Larsson, their new creative project 'studiomazageen', travelling to Cape Town & Jozi, and more.
Amber Zara is a 9-5 stylist based in the UK trying to utilise their spare time doing this, that and the other. Currently they’re working towards launching a new home, a place for products/ projects/ideas and so on. @studiomazageen is the name. Amber wanted to create a space that allows them to experiment, collaborate and most importantly have fun.
Forever trying to work on: finding the balance, seeing the beauty and doing what they feel..
We welcome Amber Z to The FRM Newsletter to share what they’ve been into recently!
👖🌎 Personal Style
A mixture of old, new and handmade. Recently I have been appreciating the little details, whether that be in the craftsmanship, finishings (I have a thing for buttons atm) or the personal handmade details/mending techniques used. Feeling comfortable is important to me, I usually wear something pretty chill and just accessorise depending on the vibe for the day. Nothing makes me feel better than wearing something friends have made, shoutout to @villageboy256, @chantradio_, @frndly_sa for t-shirts + more… sad I never got a “Nobody is perfect–I’m nobody” tee by @chrisjohnhend… manifesting a restock.
📽🐦 Film
I wasn’t spending enough time watching films so I’ve been making more of a conscious effort. I recently set up a monthly subscription at our local cinema ‘HOME mcr’ so now I can visit as many times as I want in a month, plus I have a good friend that has GOOD film suggestions so I’m kinda set. Recently I have watched ‘The Boy and the Heron’, ‘Past Lives’, ‘Anatomy of a Fall’, ‘Poor Things’, ‘The Man without a Past’. OH and ‘King Richard’… watch at your earliest convenience for a boost in motivation… believe and achieve type vibes.
🎨🎭 Art
My all time favourite artist is Emma Larsson, her stuff is really beautiful. My friend Grace, a talented stylist AND artist recently started sharing her work with the world, expressing emotion and feeling through her artworks @gracelizabethmarshall. SAMO! The superstar himself… a.k.a @playfool.atomic_studio. I truly admire his ability to keep it free, keep it flowing. A drawing a day keeps the doctor away <3, it’s a lifestyle.
🎧🎹 Music
I suppose I go off feeling, how something makes me feel/ what kind of energy I’m channeling at the time. If I’m reaaaally trying to feel something I might listen to Yves Tumor or Vegyn. If I have a whole lot of styling prep to get through Karrahbooo and Anycia are playing in the headphones, noise cancelling feature activated. More than anything I appreciate when friends share playlists/new music. If I’m trying to listen to anything @yelolavaa I have to search through my emails for the mp3’s, I’m tired. Yelo if you’re reading this, when u gonna drop that new shit? x
📚🐺 Books
Another thing I enjoy but don’t spend enough time doing is reading! Each year I set a ‘Goodreads challenge’ of 12 books a year… 1 a month… it seems feasible but I’m yet to reach this goal.
A book I finished: ‘What I Talk About When I Talk About Running’–Murakami
A book I would re-read: ‘Women Who Run With The Wolves’–Clarissa Pinkola Estés
A book I am currently reading: ‘The Beauty Of Everyday Things’–Soetsu Yanagi
🧳🛎 Travel and Lifestyle
Feeling my best when traveling… embracing new people/places/experiences. I travel a bit for work which is really nice. I suppose working within a creative industry exposes you to people all over the world doing things that inspire you, it’s a nice way to connect. Being fortunate enough to travel and strengthen those connections is something I wholeheartedly appreciate. Big thank you to the creative communities in Cape Town and Johannesburg in particular–for hosting, showing love and exposing me to the up and coming talent of the cities. There seems to be a real desire to share, collaborate and create. Everything I’m seeing is super exciting.
