#53: Gugu Goxo
This week we are joined by fine art & art history major, Gugu Goxo, who tells us more about Sleevenote, Olympus film cameras, calling restaurants instead of using food delivery apps, and more!
Gugu Goxo is a fine art & art history major. She is interested visual story telling. Gugu has curated exhibitions–and has approached photography and murals lately–but there is not a media practice she is not willing to try. Gugu passes her time pursuing her own brand of extremely online activity. She and her friends (s/0 theo._. sno & Tlo) love getting lost in the internet of things and putting each other onto obscure ™ websites in the digital arts room on campus during frantic assignment breaks.
We welcome Gugu to The FRM Newsletter to share what she’s been into recently.

📸🖼 OLYMPUS OM-2N film camera
Love this SLR! I have just started taking 35mm photographs and nothing beats analogue depth of field. It has got a built-in light meter on the viewfinder so you can set up your aperture and adjust your exposures accordingly. I’m shooting Ilford 400s in black and white at the mome. This film colour grade is the only kind I can process and expose in the darkroom. The journey is vast and I’m looking forward to learning polychromatic developing and manual grading.
👩💻🎥 Canon EOS 4000d digital camera
I have fun with the DSLR quality of this camera granted it is entry level in the canon range. I use it to mostly take some explorative pictures of scenes and settings in the Eastern Cape. They have this effect of nostalgia right away. I also explore some studio portraiture using this gadget. You can find some in my visual journal–
☎🍕 Calling the restaurants straight up instead of using food delivery apps
So early 2000s romcom and about 20 bucks cheaper.
🚬🍷 Playing Dangerous by Lana Del Rey
There’s a runway quality about feeling through this song. I’m in luVv I’m in luVv!!
🎼🎧 nobody on my line by Pay4n
Treasure the spacey feeling of this eboy banger.
💿👴 Sleevenote
Great for visual research into all your music interests. I love looking up these high-resolution images of album booklets. You can also link this sorta image-based browsing to your music app of choice. It feels so old-fashioned as if parsing through CDs and LPs in a shop and getting a striking first impression from album covers, an artform in itself.
👾🔊 Every Noise
Type an artist or track and it will generate genres more or less suited to the sound. It also aggregates results for similar music. So informative.
🎬👩🔬 YARN
Type in any keyword or random phrase and this search engine will generate movie results with the same quotes. Such fun!
