🎧 AMBIENT // INTELLIGENT JUNGLE DNB // PLAYSTATION 2 // SHIT POST MIXES
Ambient intelligent jungle drum and bass playlists on YouTube with the shit post screensaver (like visualisers) are what really put me onto a lot of the drum and bass/jungle that I love, including Roni Size & Reprazent, Aphex twin and EQ Why.
My influences range in-between artists that I've been into since I was like 18, to artists that I found a couple of months, or even weeks ago. Outside of sonic references, these artists have been influential to me in many more ways such as rollouts, music videos, performances, art direction and even persona at times. I believe we’re all made up of the bits and pieces of the shit we love. I have put together a playlist of songs and other recordings from some of my influences, pieces of me, from me 2 uuu ( ̆) ̆).。.:*♡
My process for most projects that I've worked on often starts with a mood board. Mood boarding has become more of a passive passion than a task. I find that heavily referencing is important because it allows me to get inspiration from a variety of sources and helps me to create something unique. Mood boarding is a key part of my conceptual process, as it allows me to collect and organize images that capture the mood and aesthetic that I am aiming for.
In the case of ‘It Takes Time’, I used the mood board to gather images that were relevant to the song's themes and lyrics. I focused on images that conveyed a sense of nostalgia and longing, as well as images that had a dreamy, ethereal quality to them. It also came in handy with sourcing the different props and locations for the music video.
Here's a link to it! (☆ω☆)
👖 JNCO JEANS
Late last year, I got trapped in a trance of watching ‘Breaking Bad’ back-to-back for two weeks straight at some point and Jesse Pinkman became my style icon at the time, and he made me fall in love with baggy jeans again. But not just any baggy jeans, I'm talking HUGE ASS jeans but fit at the waist, a denim/streetwear brand from the 90s named JNCO. Sickest jeans I've seen in my life, oh my gawd. Someone has to bring those back, or I will lol.
🔩 IKEUCHI
The internet is seemingly increasingly obsessed with the idea of headphones as an accessory rather than just a device. Cool and functional, what more could you ask for?
These guys take that idea to the next level with full-body accessories that resemble exo-skeletons that compile into devices that almost look functional, like something out of dystopian sci-fi movies, but also a-fucking-mazing, I love them. They even had a collaboration with Balenciaga a couple of years ago, which was deff my favourite work of theirs.
A friend of mine recently put me onto Enzo, a magazine based in New York and I think they’ve taken KALEIDOSCOPE’s place as my favourite magazine. Their work is so relatable and truly captures the essence of current social culture in a youthful perspective! Something about their energy and general essence of what they do is so special. I love their magazine! Waiting on pay-day to cop a copy of the latest issue haha. Check ‘em out! Buy an issue or a zine if you can, I promise it's great!
Nathan is a fucking genius and he pushes the envelope of playing a set further than I’ve seen (anywhere) but in a very micro scale simultaneously. The 3D elements with the ever-changing UIs & the transitions in-between the different cameras all being live streamed is all so very impressive to see, and I’m always in awe watching an episode — not to mention the fire curation by James (@eetsleep).
I’m so glad to have played a couple of sets there during season 1 I can’t wait to see what they’ll have in store for season 2.
Watch the season finale here. ↓↓
