#119: Uncoveredeasy
We’re joined by Cape Town-based multimedia visual artist, Uncoveredeasy, who tells us more about Fullmetal Alchemist, indomie noodles, Earl Sweatshirt, fully buttoned-up shirts, and more!
Uncoveredeasy is a Cape Town-based multimedia visual artist and student at Michaelis School of Fine Art. Working primarily in painting, his work is concerned with how memory, meaning and perception constantly shift within the spaces we pass through and frequently occupy. Through abstraction, layered surfaces and architectural forms, UNCEZY investigates the instability hidden within ordinary interiors and the subtle ways these spaces shape our daily experience. He has formed, and is still forming, through touched surfaces, worn edges, and the quiet evidence of presence.
We welcome UNCEZY to The FRM Newsletter to share what he’s been into recently!
👢 personal fashion
You will always catch me wearing shirts, I LOVE me a good shirt. Anywhere, doing whatever, any time…Fully buttoned
Hoodie is essential and sometimes it’s really only for the hood part of it.
Anything black, brown, dark greens, and purple im wearing it, im not too big on bright colours for my clothing
Layers are important for me. Mandatory skit-type of layer over the pants and the sleeveless jackets are beautiful.
I love to layer in the most unnecessary and impractical ways. 3 jackets all serving a different purpose and the mandatory hoodie. It’s the best feeling ever, you feel unstoppable or even bulletproof. Yoh and in winter after being outside for too long and you start heating up when you get back indoors, then you get to take all them layers off. PEAK. then you gotta suite back up to leave the house its beautiful
🎧💿 music
HEAVY HEAVY Earl sweatshirt fan - that man has NO misses and my favourite album would have to be “SICK!”. Tabula Rasa and Old friend are the best tracks in that album. “VOIR DIRE” and “I dont like shit i dont go outside” follow real close. His recent project with MIKE is scrumptious rn
Westside gunn - on “055” AA RASHID said in the outro :” You don’t have to die in order for you to hear what heaven sounds like, and this sounds heavenly”. That’s what I’m saying.
MIKE & The ‘10k Global’ label affiliates
MACH HOMMY
Action Bronson - i love Dr.Baklava, you can hear how passionate he is over his craft when he raps
Armand hammer
Young Thugg , Playboi Carti, Chief Keef, CHE, Lucki, ICYTWAT, LAZERDIM 700, Glock40spazz, gktimo
If you still dont like mumble rap in 2026 then you might be a lil racist, I don’t make the rules
Earl sweatshirt and Westside Gunn probably influence the way I paint the most. I used to always mention to my homie Tavon that I need to paint the way Earl raps. Earls’s writing is so dense, there’s little nuances in it, but the way he delivers everything feels effortless, low, energy, sometimes even confusing. If you’re not really paying attention, you’ll miss what’s actually going on. I think about that a lot when I’m building layers in my paintings. He reminds me to really put my whole soul into the work, and that it’s okay for something to look plain or simple on the surface because you know there’s way more going on underneath. Earl is tekky.
Westside Gunn hits differently. He raps aggressively and pushes this hard image, but over these soft, almost angelic beats. That contrast is what makes it so beautiful to me. The way he presents himself grabs your attention immediately, but underneath all that there’s real emotion, pain and reflection tied to his life experiences. It’s kind of a reminder that I’m allowed to make some crazy looking shit, because regardless of how it looks, it is still coming from a place of deep thought and reflection. More than anything both of them remind me to trust what I make and move with the belief that what I’m creating already has great value.

The only tips i got are:
just start making and you will find out where it needs to go and what it is about closer to the end, you don’t have to plan everything all the time.
Don’t fight your materials, let them do what they wanna do and adjust to it.
But also find the limits of your desired medium and try to push it further.
Scavenge for material to work on
—------------------------------------------------
I don’t like having any sort of human figures in my work what so ever, i feel it disrupts everything and if you think there absolutely needs to be a person in the work to successfully convey a feeling or relation to that then maybe we gotta go back to the drawing board and scheme new ways to attack that issue fr. unless its done right tho
I think that’s where my use of my monoblock chairs and just chairs in general started and as I worked with it more it developed into something else. When you care for something that long and put your life into it it begins a life of its own and becomes its own entity, seriously.
That being said, I’m done with the chairs completely. They will make an appearance when they need to, just like they always do.
We needa talk more critical with each other about our work man, im tired of hearing “this is cool” tell me wussup and maybe ill listen to you or not
